Beginning this week, some content in YouTube is going to be chargeable. This attitude tracks the drift in established media channels. Initially, media tycoon, Rupert Murdoch commenced the end of free offers for search engines and currently NYT corroborated that users need to pay for accessing articles. At present, YouTube is associating with Sundance Film Festival and will charge customers $5 to see a collection of films from festivals in 2009 and 10.

Though it is inexpensive compared to the movie ticket, the question is whether the customers will concur to this trend. 5 movies have been earmarked for this purpose, which we regard as a test dose to find out the reaction of the users for paid content. If promoted, this will be a fresh income stream for the video giant, which has traditionally been on the lap of abundance.

The movies on the list are ‘The Cove’, an undersea exploration on catching dolphin in Japan; ‘Bass Ackwards’, which is an account of an unplanned road expedition; ‘Children of Invention’ is the story of two orphans from Bostonia; ‘One Too Many Mornings’ is a comic tale on coming-of-age about two persons who are far advanced in age and; ‘Homewrecker’ is a comedy on a lock smith. The producers of the film will decide on the precise price for watching the films, but all the films will have a price tag of around $5.

A Spokesperson for YouTube informed us that this step is taken for assisting film producers to locate distribution opportunities for their movies. The films will naturally come with no adverts, which would be an artistic catastrophe for a director who elects to place his conception online.
