Submitted on 2010/01/22 No Comment

Microsoft may have to pursue the guidelines of Yahoo to keep the records for a period of 3 months if the joint venture with Yahoo for ‘Microhoo’ gets through some time in the year. This implies that Microsoft will have to remove any individual data it acquires from Yahoo in 3 months.

Microsoft in the meantime has elected to abide by the appeal of EU to reduce the retaining of search data to 6 months. It is also a fact that Google maintains its data for a period of 9 months and Yahoo for 3 months. Yahoo is delighted that it had triumphed at any rate in one facet of the search war and issued a statement in this regard.

Yahoo! stated that are full of pride of their Data Anonymization Policy, which was well accepted by all and asserts their obligation to defend the privacy of their clients. The policy, according to Yahoo! significantly trims down the time for retention of private data and raises the scale of log-data covered through the policy. To a question on the ‘Microhoo’ deal, spokesman for Yahoo informed that Microsoft is required to conform to Yahoo policies in respect of data that are imparted to them.

This system is really ideal as custodial rules on data should be relevant even when the data is swapped. Microsoft confirmed the deal and stated that Yahoo’s private policy in respect of data received from them will be honored and will scrupulously adhere to data retention practices of Yahoo in regard to each and every search that Yahoo gathers and forwards to them.
