Google or Facebook – Which Will Get The Most Visitors?
Google has been on the web for quite some time, it now offers a user a wide variety of products from the revolutionary search to the new Google Wave. Google Wave is all set to reinvent the email and keeps up with Google’s image of a company which constantly innovates to give its users a better web experience. It is the users again which get Google all the money it needs to run and grow, users means clicks and clicks mean advertising revenue. Of late there has been another player which has attracted considerable number of clicks, it is Facebook and it is no secret that Google has started feeling the jitters. Facebook with its well designed and mass appealing social networking portal has become quite popular of late and has an ever increasing user base, it is the real time data generated by the users for the users that makes Facebook so attractive. With Google earning 90% and Facebook 70% of their revenue from search, the game is on.
Google still has the better share of eyeballs as it receives a monthly hit of 2.05 billion which is 1.4 times that received by Facebook. It is content where Facebook gives Google a real run for its money, while the data at Google is the information gathered from the web at Facebook the information is generated in real time by the users for the other users. It is this quality that makes Facebook provide a better web experience that Google. Also the large pool of personal data that Facebook has of its users allows it to create applications and other utilities that are accepted widely by the mass.

Google does have a social networking answer to Facebook in the form of Orkut, but apart from a few areas like India and Brazil, Orkut doesn’t enjoy as much popularity as Facebook. To assert an influence over the entire social networking scenario Google has come up with OpenSocial a cross-site app developer for social networking sites like Orkut, hi5, Ning, MySpace etc. OpenSocial does have an edge over Facebook’s Open Stream and Connect which allows users to create apps only for Facebook.

At the end of the day one must remember that Google is the one that started it all and has a fat piggy bank which it can break open any time it wants. It is Google that has come up with many redefining products like Chrome, Wave etc etc. Google has done a good job of organizing the world’s information and with the new Google products aimed at organizing our personal information Google is all set to take on Facebook. In the future we can expect a race between these two giants, a race to grab the maximum eyeballs.
