Samsung did not forewarn consumers that half of the 16GB of internal memory of Galaxy S4 will be occupied by the company applications. This miffed some people who purchased the smartphone. Now the company is coming out with a statement saying it was necessary in order to deliver powerful features.
This is not a big problem for consumers who root. For others, they will have to manage with less than 10GB of storage space. It is possible to ameriolate the problem by using a MicroSD card. A disadvantage of that card is that it only saves images, music and videos.
Samsung is aware of the problem, and how annoying it is for some consumers. The company is saying: “We appreciate this issue being raised and we will improve our communications. Also, we are reviewing the possibility to secure more memory space through further software optimisation. Samsung is committed to listening to our customers and responding to their needs as part of our innovation process.”
It is not clear how much of a space a future update will save. But this incident has provided the company with a lesson. It will bundle its packages in a smaller space if it has heeded the lesson.
